Althea Gibson Tennis Complex at Empie Park Wilmington, NC

Named after incomparable Tennis Hall of Famer and 5-time singles grand slam winner, Althea Gibson, who lived and trained in Wilmington in the late 1940ís, the 2,500 square foot Tennis Complex clubhouse serves as the gateway to Empie Parkís new center court. The Complex is a hub of tennis activity in Wilmington, with 19 courts open for public play. The clubhouse building is sited along a north-south axis among native pine trees, and opens to the east with generous views from which to spot the action on center court. A covered porch on the east elevation keeps both the building and spectators in shade throughout the day. The clubhouse includes a player lounge, team meeting room, and snack counter.
