Donal C. O’Brien Sanctuary and Audubon Center at Pine Island
Corolla, North Carolina

Located on Currituck Sound in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, the Audubon Sanctuary encompasses marshes, creeks, channels, open water, dry sandy areas and majestic maritime forests. This incredible site was once the location of the historic Pine Island Hunt Club, and is now the property of National Audubon Society. The goal of the project is “to maintain the complex as a sanctuary for both wildlife and people and as a hub for research.” The masterplan solution allows for the site to be used as program space for Audubon retreats and research, as well as educating and informing the public about the nature of this place.
