The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher
Fort Fisher, North Carolina

The Fort Fisher Aquarium is one of the three aquariums operated by the State of North Carolina. The design concept for this building was an extension of the existing storyline theme: “Waters of the Cape Fear River System.” The design of this building expresses the history, waters, and environment of this particular area of the coast. A large open atrium allows trees and native vegetation to grow around the exhibit tanks while also providing habitat for birds as well as marine animals and alligators.
